Certifications and training in detail
I have received nine years of formal training as a psychologist. I officially qualified as a psychologist in 2016 and subsequently was awarded the title, Doctor of Psychology in 2020. I hold a Bachelor's of Science (BSc) degree in Psychology from Queen’s University Belfast (2014), a prestigious University located in Northern Ireland that belongs to the esteemed Russell group of top-ranked universities in the United Kingdom. The rigorous curriculum gave me a broad knowledge of Psychology and prepared me for advanced studies in the field. During this time I was also awarded a fully-funded Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to study at the University of Masaryk in the Czech Republic, where I continued my curriculum for 6-months. I continued my academic journey by pursuing a Master's of Science (MSc) degree in Health Psychology at King's College London (2016), one of the leading universities in the world, ranked number 5 best global university in the United Kingdom and 6th best global university in Europe. This ranking is according to performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence. The comprehensive program offered an interdisciplinary approach to the field, providing me with a solid foundation of health pschology, behavioral medicine, and public health. With the completion of my Master‘s degree, I successfully qualified to practice as a Psychologist in Switzerland in 2016. From 2017-2020 I undertook a PhD in Psychology at the University of Basel where I graduated with ‘Insigni Cum Laude’ (i.e. ‘with remarkable praise’). My doctorate degree was fully funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and was focused on improving the quality of care services for palliative care patients and their families in Switzerland. The doctoral program allowed me to explore the complex issues surrounding chronic illness end-of-life care, including patient preferences, quality of life and improving health care services for patients and family members under-going palliative treatment. Through my training, I gained invaluable insight into the challenges faced by patients and healthcare professionals in this field, and I developed innovative strategies to improve the quality of care provided to patients and their families. Moreover, I was able to work first hand with doctors and specialists in palliative care services and learn from family care-givers of palliative patients through qualitative interviews and research.
Besides my extensive psychological training over the years, I have written research articles that have been published in scientific journals that have sought to inform health policy in Switzerland (please see this list below). Moreover, I have spoken at numerous public health conferences at a national and international level on my doctoral research and held lectures and work-shops on Psychological research methods at the University of Zürich (see conference engagements below). My academic background and extensive experience make me a competent and compassionate psychologist who can address a wide range of psychological issues. In my practice, I apply all my training experience and utilize evidence-based treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and breath-work and meditation techniques, to help my clients achieve optimal mental health.
